It's been a while since I posted a review, but as I get back in to the swing of reviewing Mobile accessories and suchlike, I'm happy to be starting with a review of the Torras iPad Pro 2018 11 Inch Case....
Starting on the outside
Torras is a brand I've been really interested in since around the time I was using the iPhone X - I bought three of their cases, and found them all to be good in their own ways. So it's great that Torras were happy to send me their case for the new iPad Pro 11 Inch to review. It's also probably worth pointing out that I don't (yet) have an iPad Pro to put in the case (!), so this review (part 1) is very much going to focus on aspects of the case I can comment on, without needing the iPad itself.
Probably the first thing to notice is that the outside material is Denim - which is different! I find that all Mobile and iPad cases (if they are good ones) need to be able to take a degree of wear, and since Denim is both (a) tough and (b) wears well, I think it's actually a pretty nice decision:
Torras provide this case in three colours - Black, Red, and Mint - and I was supposed to receive the Black variant - however, I perceive the colour to be closer to blue....what do you think?
It's also worth saying at this point that Torras have done a nice job with regard to quality - if you're going to stitch materials, and then bond plastics to them, you had better pay attention to the finer details - and I think this case delivers in that respect.
Speaking of those plastics, this case uses an 'inner skeleton' approach to deliver its rigidity. This skeleton has several cutouts for speakers, the mic, and also the Gen 2 Apple Pencil, which attaches to the side of the iPad. This all looks good, and at least in my review unit, the plastic was a grey colour:
Moving inside
The inside of the case combines the soft microfibre lining that many cases now have, with the harder plastic frame that is used to keep the iPad in place within the case. From the photos below you'll see everything is finished in a matching grey colour - with the microfibre more of a matte effect, and the plastic back being a shinier effect with a hexagon pattern marked in:
As I mentioned above, Torras have taken some care with the cutouts and the finish inside the case, and I'm quite sure that inserting the iPad will show a great match with them - vital if you are going to get the most out of the iPad itself:
You probably noticed from the above photos that the microfibre inner has a couple of shallow trenches through it - this is to allow for positioning of the case frame in to them, to give optional viewing angles based on position you would prefer:
Bringing it all together
The key question is whether the case is good or not - and for me that breaks down in to two parts - does it (1) deliver the features I want for (2) the cost I am happy to pay. If that balance is right, then the case can be considered 'good' value.
With regard to features, most all of what I'd expect to have in a case is here - it's protective, hard-wearing, keeps the iPad mostly enclosed, but allows access to all of the iPad capabilities. The only thing missing is a keyboard - but here, you would just use a bluetooth keyboard to achieve that function.
With regard to cost, the current [12th January 2019] price on Amazon UK is £19.99, which I think is reasonable for a decent quality iPad case. Adding the aforementioned keyboard in to a case would increase the price dramatically.
So is it good value? Well, based on what I've tried so far, I'd have to say yes. I'd like to confirm once I have an iPad Pro to put in the case, but certainly some of the key things I look for in a case are met here. Probably for my personal preference, a fully black case would be perfect, but I can certainly appreciate that people do like other colours!
All in all then, certainly one case you could consider as a case for your iPad Pro, especially if you're looking for something a little bit different than the typical materials for iPad cases.
Thanks to Torras for providing this case for review purposes.
